“These are the fundamental human rights: freedom from discrimination on grounds of “race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status”, as set out by the United Nations in 1948, and supported by Amnesty International when founded in 1961.

Manchester has led the way in the fight for equality and justice – from the earliest days off campaigning against slavery to the push for the vote and the birth of the multi-cultural city – and this walk devised in conjunction with the local branch of Amnesty International on the organisation’s 50th birthday, explains the city’s role in that struggle.
