This is a journey into the heart of mediaeval Manchester, examining these two ancient buildings in detail, unravelling their rich history, and explaining how this site came to be at the centre of the “Old Town” of Manchester, so dramatically derided by Friedrich Engels in his Condition of the Working Class in England.
